BETTER BROADBAND?

I am lookin at Centurylink's ADSL for internet access. I wanted to hear from anyone who uses either COX cable or the DSL from Centurylink.

Centurylink is advertising a special for ADSL speed of 6-10 MBPS as a "standard", which includes all of their upgraded telephone features plus unlimited national calling...$59-79 a month.

COX provides about 3 MBPS as a "standard" and costs around #35 a month.

Any comments on preferences?

COX Performance & Cost

Hi Ed,

We've been Cox subscribers for a very long time on both the east and west servers. The service reliability was outstanding on the east coast and has been very good of late here. We're quite pleased with the effective speed of the service which in our case typically runs from 15-22mbps download and 4-6mbps upload. We run a cabled and wireless 802.11n network with multiple computers and peripherals so our numbers may or may not be typical.

I'm a "Preferred" Internet service customer and my rate is $49.99 a month less the discounted bundle amount. Phone service runs about $14 a month which includes the ubiquitous FCC Access Charges. No charge for long distance service or the Simply 5 Plan which translates to 5-cents a minute for long distance calls.

We have experienced zero problems with Netflicks or other service streaming on our smart tvs, a Playstation 3, or wireless internet enabled Blu-ray players. Even when using multiple devices simultaneously. On occasion I review and download stuff from YouTube and other providers for various projects and have yet to experience a problem. My wife and I also Skype a lot with our kids in Florida and we rarely have any problems, other than our granddaughter periodically knocking the remote laptop off the table. My sense is that we could probably downgrade to "standard" and still be happy but why mess with something that works well.

Hope this helps.
