I've been using a Canon MP830 multifunction printer for about 5 years. I have absolutely no complaints about the printer as it's been a workhorse over the years printing countless manuals, photos, faxes, etc.
Recently the black ink function quit. Apparently this is a common thing for this model Canon. The colors still work just fine so I suspect the black ink ports on the printhead are clogged. I've tried all the usual fixes and, if one is to believe the manufacturers of printhead cleaning kits, running the printhead cleaning utilities only compounds the problem.
Has anyone had experience with any of the various printhead cleaning kits that are on the market? All the kits advertise working miracles and there are plenty of YouTube ads. The good news is the kits seem to be relatively inexpensive.
New printheads, on the other hand, can run between $60-75 and since I'm not entirely sure the existing printhead is broken I don't want to incur the expense needlessly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
